Marilyn Voigt Fertig
June 15, 1944 - June 7, 2019

SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. - Marilyn Voigt Fertig, 74, of Sherrills Ford passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at her residence.

She was born June 15, 1944 in Glendale, N.Y. to the late Bernard Voigt Sr. and Lillian Smith Voigt. Marilyn was a member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catawba. She went to Kindergarten with her husband and attended Boston University. Marilyn lived her life with her family always at the forefront. She dedicated her life to her husband, their three children and six grandchildren. A mom above all else, she planned parties for family, vacations for learning, and events for her family to gather and share precious time together. She was generous, kind and always thinking of others. Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, she remained strong for her kids and grandkids, attending every baseball and softball game, birthday party and graduation in her transport chair. She shared God’s love each day of her life with her smile, her caring and her generous heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Gloria Horbert and Muriel Culver.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years Robert F. Fertig Sr. of Sherrills Ford; son Robert F. Fertig Jr. and wife Erin of Catawba; daughters Kim Davis and husband Thomas of Sherrills Ford, April Nelson and husband Jack of Sherrills Ford; brothers Fred Voigt and wife Virginia of Peachtree City, Ga., Bernard Voigt Jr. and wife JoAnn of Oxford, Fla.; sisters June Mastrandrea of Clearwater, Fla., Arlene Dalessandro and husband Arthur of The Villages, Fla., Virginia Mule` and husband Joseph of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; grandchildren Kimberly Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Thomas Davis, Brooke Davis, Emma Fertig and Robert Fertig III.

A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catawba. Rev. Greg Alms will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Thomas A. Davis, Thomas C. Davis, Jack Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Robert Fertig Jr. and Robert Fertig III.
