Joan Brower Vandenbosch
July 17, 1943 - October 6, 2021

HICKORY, N.C. - Joan Brower Vandenbosch, 79, of Hickory passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

She was born July 17, 1943 in Detroit, Mich. to the late Edward and Emma Leak Brower. Joan was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Grover Vandenbosch.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons Richard Vandenbosch and husband Rick of Hickory, Edward Vandenbosch of Taylorsville; daughters Dawn Hagerman of Taylorsville, Cheryl Ortega and husband Israel of Charlotte; grandchildren Shawn Sigmon (Tiffany), Alicia Starnes (Wyatt),Natalie Koback (Jack), and Nicholas Vandenbosch; great-grandchildren Ava Sigmon, Paisley Starnes, and Gentry Starnes.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newton. Father James M. Collins will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. Father Ed Sheridan will officiate. Those serving as pallbearers are Rick Sigmon, Shawn Sigmon, Jack Koback, and Wyatt Starnes.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 720 W. 13th St., Newton, NC 28658.
