Ned Avery Story
June 2, 1945 - October 17, 2021

NEWTON, N.C. - Ned Avery Story, 76, of Newton passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born June 2, 1945 in Catawba County to the late Charlie and Viola Smith Story. Ned was a lifelong member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Foothills Antique Power Association and served on the Board of Directors. Ned also formerly served on the Board of Directors for Bandys Fire Department. He retired as owner and operator of Specialty Cash Register Company. Ned loved collecting and restoring John Deere tractors and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Story; brother, Wade Story; and sister, Joyce LaCount.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years Jill Isenhour Story of the home; daughter Shelly Black and husband Kevin of Newton; daughter-in-law Mitzi Story of Maiden; brother Lewis Story and wife Janice of Newton; sister-in-law Peggy Story of Newton; grandchildren Jesse Brumley and husband Chris, Madi Story, Charlie Story and wife Allie, Landry Black and Sawyer Black; great-grandchild due January 2022; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Ned’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden. Rev. Ryan Weaver and Rev. Michael Staton will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are James Story, Johnny LaCount, Alan Story, Tim Smith, Michael Isenhour and Matthew Smith. The Bill Brown Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
