Shirley Penley Canipe
December 22, 1961 - November 6, 2021

MAIDEN, N.C. - Shirley Penley Canipe, 59, of Maiden passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

She was born December 22, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Cecil and Hazel Brackett Penley. Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover and retired from McCrary Modern after 30 years where she worked as an inspector. Upon retiring from McCreary Modern, Shirley found she loved working at E-mart Community Grill in Maiden alongside her sister and brother-in-law. She was adored by all customers and greeted them with a warm welcome and smile. Shirley was an avid racing fan, who enjoyed going to races with her husband Ronnie and family, she loved helping in the pits with the racer dudes. She especially loved her grandchildren Emma and Maddy, as they were her world. Shirley also shared a special bond as well as a birthday with her daughter Melissa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David Penley, Justin Penley; sisters, Marylyn Penley Hoke, Cynthia Penley Puckett; father-in-law, Glenn Canipe; brother-in-law, Robert Trivette; nephews, Bryan Canipe, Shannon Penley, Stacy Puckett; and great-nephew, Taiven Canipe.

Those left to cherish her memory is her husband Ronald Canipe of the home; daughter Melissa Canipe Tester of the home; brothers Ray Penley and wife Pam of Conover, Joe A. Penley and wife Theresa of Fallston; sisters Barbara Penley of Newton, Rebecca Canipe and husband Randy of Maiden, Lori Penley of Claremont; grandchildren Emma Paige Hoyle and Madelyn Leigh Tester; and fur baby Trixie.

A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers are Thomas Hoyle, Dennis Trivette, Daniel Rodriquez, Hunter Hoke, Dustin Penley and Cody Penley.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2126 Saint Johns Church Rd., NE, Conover, NC 28613
