LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Thomas Dean Henkle, age 88, of Lincolnton passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 18, 1933 in Lincoln County, and was the son of the late William Preston Henkle and Ola Mae McConnell Henkle.
He was a graduate of Lincolnton High School and upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force, serving a total of eight years, four years active and four years inactive. After his military service, he worked at G.E. in Hickory for 30 years.
His beloved granddaughter Cassie gave him his nickname, “The Old Geezer” which was very special to him. His hobbies included mowing his lawn with his John Deere mower, watching the Atlanta Braves, Washington Redskins, camping, watching the birds in his back yard and loved listening to music.
He was a dedicated and active member of McKendree United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.
In addition to his parents; brothers Preston, Joseph, and Dale Henkle; sisters, Evie Harman, Lois Lanier, Louise Harbinson; and granddaughter Cassie Tibbs Dymora preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife and love of his life Carolyn Crouse Henkle of the home; daughter Debbie Tibbs (Jeff) of Newton; grandsons Andy Tibbs (Lindsey) of Newton, Chris Dymora of Newton; great-grandsons Jaxon and Kory Tibbs of Newton, Gabriel and Jonathan Dymora of Newton.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Gregg Plott officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Matthews Reformed Church Cemetery in Maiden.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the McKendree UMC fellowship hall.
