CLAREMONT, N.C. - Jerry Thomas Bowman, 79, of Claremont passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born August 28, 1942 in Caldwell County to the late Lillie Miller Bowman. Jerry was a 1960 graduate of St. Stephens High School and retired from the furniture industry, working with Hickory Tavern and Lexington Home Brands for many years. He was an avid Carolina Tarheel basketball fan, and enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, the beach, country music and watching his grandchildren’s activities.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years Jackie Chandler Bowman of the home; sons Kelvin Bowman and wife Vickie of Newton, Brian Bowman of Claremont, Andy Wright and wife Keisha of Maiden; daughters Teresa Propst and husband Randall of Newton, Karen Witherspoon and husband Greg of Claremont; grandchildren Cameron Witherspoon (Shawna), Kayla Van Dyke (Chris), Candace McGraw (Cole), Hayden Wright, Carter Wright, Michael Kamiske, Brittany Kamiske, and Chelsea Kamiske; great-grandchildren Paxton Van Dyke, Vivi McGraw, Kamryn, Janiya, Jamison, Aviana, Gensis, Nazique, Michael, Kusher, and Taliya Kamiske.
A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Derek Cline will officiate. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Church in Catawba. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers are John Capps, Hayden Wright, Carter Wright, Cameron Witherspoon, Chris Van Dyke, and Cole McGraw.
