CATAWBA, N.C. - On Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 1:48 p.m. Joyce Guin Sigmon, 88, of Catawba came face to face with her Lord and Savior, the one she served with her every breath.

She was our prayer warrior and she loved to crochet, make quilts and any other craft projects she could get her hands on. She especially loved teaching her family the art of canning, making jams and jellies, baking cakes, and so much more. Most importantly, she loved telling people about her Jesus.

She was born August 4, 1933 in Cleveland County to the late William Henry Guin and Annie Mae Dagenhart Guin. Joyce and her husband Kenneth were founding members of Mathis Chapel Baptist Church in Catawba, where she served many positions within her church, including church clerk, treasurer, VBS director, teacher, youth group leader and various other positions. She was also a member of The Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary, and served on many local and jurisdictional offices with WoodmenLife, Bandys VFD Ladies Auxiliary, and Farm Bureau board of directors.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Kenneth “Ken” Burton Sigmon; son, Darris Dean Sigmon; daughter, Kathy Schronce; son-in-law, Bryan Schronce; brother, Harry Lee Guin Sr,; and sister, Edna G. Warren.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son Ray Sigmon and wife Virginia of Maiden; daughter Anita Sigmon of Catawba; grandchildren Carrie Putnam, Rachel and Darren Kowalski, Amanda and Brian Leatherman, Marsha and Tyson Wagoner, Mellonee and Johnny Small, Burt and Ashley Propst, Timothy and Karen Propst; great-grandchildren Brittany Taylor, Tyler Sigmon, Andrew Wiseman, Austin Propst, Clayton Propst, Kylie Jackson, Vivian Kowalski, Gavin Kowalski, and Aurora Kowalski; great-great-grandchildren Charlotte Wiseman and Cassie Sigmon.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the entire staff of Carolina Caring, who took amazing care of mom. Special thanks to “her nurse”, Linda Johnson and “her bath lady”, Ashley Chislom. We also want to thank her devoted caregivers, Cindy Paysour and Kim Shirley. Thanks for loving our mom.

A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Travis Triplett and Rev. Jeff Levan will officiate. Burial will follow at Mathis Chapel Baptist Church in Catawba. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers are Brian Leatherman, Burt Propst, Tyler Wiseman, Thomas Lee, Billy Putnam and Austin Propst.
