Shirley Hollifield Pugh
August 15, 1936 - April 25, 2022

CONOVER, N.C. - Shirley Hollifield Pugh, 85, of Conover, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

She was born August 15, 1936 in McDowell County to the late J. Fate Hollifield and Caskie McCormick Hollifield. Shirley was proud of the fact that she was raised at Barium Springs Orphanage. She was a member of First Christian Church of Newton and loved to sing in the church choir. Shirley retired from Catawba Valley Medical Center where she worked in the dietary department.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rena, Betty, and Ruby; brothers, Marvin, Russell, Johnny, and Virgil; and ex-husband, Pace. T. Pugh.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son Tracy “Burly” Pugh and girlfriend Barbara Sams of Conover; several nephews and nieces and special friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Fred Nelson will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
