Freida Watson Miller
May 27, 1943 - July 25, 2022

HICKORY, N.C. - Freida Watson Miller, 79, of Hickory, went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior, July, 25, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 27, 1943, in Granite Falls, to the late Marie and Fred Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Watson and sister, Frances Sanders.

Freida graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1961 and worked at CR Laine where she later retired after 28 years. Freida was an active member of Highland Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was also a member of the JOY Makers at Highland Baptist where she made many lifelong friendships that she truly cherished.

Freida was the most caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joys were her family, friends, fashion and traveling the world. Freida was a lady of beauty and style; she would never be seen with a hair out of place. Freida and Alfred loved to travel together, while also enjoying taking their two grandchildren with them to a different state every year as they grew up. Together, they traveled to all 50 states. Her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought exceptional happiness to her life and she loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She could put a smile on anyone’s face with her amazing personality and charm and through all her battles she always kept a smile on her face that would light up any room.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Alfred Miller; daughter, Michelle Howard; grandchildren, Ashley Baird and husband, Tyler and Hunter Jones and wife, Candace; great-grandchildren, Madilynn Baird and Memphis Baird, Kinsley Jones and Levi Jones; brother, James Watson and wife, Sonja of Germany and all of her beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wants to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Oncology Department of Catawba Valley Medical Center and her home nurse, Dana, with Carolina Caring for the exceptional care that they gave her.

A service to celebrate Freida’s life will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Hickory. Rev. Dr. Jeff Myers will officiate. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., at Highland Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Hunter Jones, Tyler Baird, Eric Miller, and Jammy Self.
