Kenny 'Kojak' Hambright
May 20, 1956 - July 15, 2022

Wayne Howard

Funeral arrangements are pending for 'Kojak.'  Kenny Hambright turned 66 in May.  He spent his final days in the nursing home.  For most Lincolntonians, he was best known for handing out 'tickets' downtown.  He was an ardent Lincolnton High School fan and had a close involvement with the Lincolnton Fire Dept. and with the LHS band, which he 'directed' from time to time at parades and other events.

If you have ever seen the movie "Radio," it could have been made as "Kojak," because of the similarity of the movie character and Kenny.  We have asked Tony Jenkins, member of the School Board, who looked after Kojak and visited him almost every day; former LHS Coach Scott Cloninger; and others to send us a few paragraphs of remembrances of Kenny and we'll publish those early next week.

Mayor Ed Hatley says the City is planning on doing something in remembrance of Kenny and we'll have details on that as well.
