"Bad Wig Bandit" Caught In Georgia

Lincoln Herald Staff

The notorious “Bad Wig Bandit,” a man suspected of robbing four banks and a convenience store in North Carolina, was taken into custody in Georgia, according to the FBI.

30-year-old Patrick Alexander was arrested Monday (March 30th) after trying to enter Fort Benning. When Military Police ran his identification, they discovered an active robbery warrant.

Alexander is currently charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon related to the robbery of a Circle K convenience store in Charlotte on January 23rd and one count of common law robbery in connection with the robbery of a BB&T bank in Huntersville on December 13th.

The FBI gave him the nickname "Bad Wig Bandit" because he wore different wigs in each of the bank robberies:

  • December 13, 2019- BB&T Bank 16710 Northcross Drive, Huntersville;
  • January 7, 2020- New Horizon Bank 6440 Wilkinson Boulevard, Belmont;
  • January 7, 2020- Wells Fargo 403 Cox Road, Gastonia;
  • January 16, 2020- BB&T Bank 100 Dana Road, Hendersonville;
  • and the convenience store robbery January 23, 2020- Circle K 100 Red Roof Road, Charlotte.

The FBI said Alexander is also suspected in three other robberies in North Carolina: New Horizon Bank on Wilkinson Boulevard in Belmont and Wells Fargo Bank on Cox Road in Gastonia on January 7th and the BB&T Bank on Dana Road in Hendersonville on January 16th. More charges are likely against Alexander, who was being held in the Muscogee County Jail in Columbus, Georgia.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Huntersville Police Department, Belmont Police Department, Gastonia Police Department, and Hendersonville Police Department.
