Senator Thom Tillis has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery next week. The 60-year-old North Carolina Republican expects to make a "full recovery." He was elected to a second six-year term in November.
"I had no symptoms and would have never imagined I had cancer. My prognosis is good because I went to my annual physical and received a PSA test, which led to a biopsy and eventually my diagnosis. I am blessed that my cancer was detected relatively early, and I can't emphasize enough how important routine screenings are, regardless of how healthy you think you are," Tillis said in a statement.
This is the second health battle that Tillis has had to fight recently. During his re-election campaign, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 in October, but had a relatively mild case and a quick recovery.
