In Gaston County, 1st Baptist Church of Lowell hosted its annual Prayer Breakfast. Another Prayer Breakfast took place at the YMCA in Gastonia.

In Lincoln County, there were two observances during the noon hour: one on the east side of the Court Square and the other in front of City Hall. On Thursday evening, a Candlelight Prayer Service was held at the outdoor chapel across from the Lincolnton YMCA.

Rev. David Wyant of 1st United Methodist Church led the prayer service at City Hall and Dr. Stanley Spence of 1st Baptist Church led the candlelight service at the YMCA.
