LRU Institute For Faith And Learning Free Classes, Mondays through November 19 --- Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Institute for Faith and Learning is sponsoring weekly “Religion, Science and Ministry” classes, in the fellowship hall at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. “Religion, Science and Ministry” will explore how individuals can engage questions of science faithfully in a local congregation setting. Mindy Makant, Ph.D., LR associate professor of religious studies and director of the Living Well Center, will lead class sessions, which are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary. Sons of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry Coat & Blanket Drive, Now through October 31 --- The Sons of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry is holding a Coat & Blanket Drive (new items only) to benefit area homeless shelters.  In addition, new gloves, mittens, and warm hats will be collected. Both adult and children sizes are needed. Items can be dropped off at the Blue Ridge Harley Davidson, 2002 13th Ave. Dr. SE, Hickory, NC 28602 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays Oct. 2-31. LRU Lives Worth Living Series, Thursday, October 18 --- The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Bell Jr. will be the featured speaker Thursday, October 18, at 7 p.m. in the Grace Chapel at Lenior-Rhyne University in Hickory. The Living Well Center for Vocation and Purpose hosts the speaker series which includes theologians, bishops, artists, and advocates for justice, will share their vocational stories and encourage participants to think in new ways about what makes one’s own life meaningful and purpose-filled. Bell is an independent scholar who served for almost two decades as a professor of theology and ethics at LR’s Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He is a popular speaker at colleges and universities, campus ministries, and churches on topics such as war and peace, the moral life, stewardship and economics, leadership, and mission of the church. The event is free and open to public.
