LINCOLNTON, N.C.––Sunday’s “Amazing Race Against Hunger” was a big success for Christian Ministry.

According to its executive director, Mitzi Williams, the event has raised more than $6,000 so far, and more funds are still coming in. Williams thanked all the participants and donors to this worthy cause.

“If you know a walker or a challenge team, and you want to donate in their honor, please mail your donations to Christian Ministry,” she said.

That address is: Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, P.O. Box 423, Lincolnton, N.C. 28093.

In other news, Williams said the organization is busily preparing for Christmas.

“We are all geared up for Christmas at Christian Ministry,” she said. “Are you? It takes every minute we have, from Nov. 1 all the way to Dec. 20, to give out Christmas (related help and toys) to more than 700 families, and that includes more than 600 children! It takes a lot of wonderful people, churches and businesses to make it happen.”

Can you help? See the Website at www.christianministryoflincolncounty.org.

Relatedly, volunteers are needed on Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. Williams encourages the public to come by the ministry to sign up to help decorate the facilities for Christmas on that Thursday. Call (704) 732-0383 to learn more.

In other news, the ministry’s food pantry needs peanut butter, detergent, Chef Boyardee products, bar soap, spaghetti sauce, pop-top canned meats and the following canned items: corn, green beans, crackers, beans and rice.
Williams also provided a list of local churches with volunteers scheduled to pack food. If you can’t come, be sure to call the ministry. The schedule includes:

  • Oct. 14-15, David Memorial Baptist;
  • Oct. 16-18, Trinity Lutheran;
  • Oct. 21-23, Greater Moore’s Chapel’
  • Oct. 24-25, Reep’s Grove Methodist;
  • Oct. 28-29, Mt. Vernon Baptist of Iron Station;
  • and Oct. 30-31, Sharon Baptist.

And the clothes closet needs men’s clothing, as Williams informed.

“We have no T-shirts or underwear for men,” she said, “and we also need women’s undergarments.”

She added that the clothes closet would be closed, Dec. 2-Jan. 1.

“We must make room for our annual Christmas give-out day, which will be Dec. 20,” Williams revealed. “We will not be accepting any clothes during this time.”

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information.
