Amazing Parade Against Hunger

Lincoln Herald Staff

Mitzi Williams, Chrisan Ministry’s Executive Director, says the Amazing Parade Against Hunger, scheduled for 3-4 PM Sunday (April 25th) benefits the LINC Home Meals program, which delivers hot meals to local seniors and shut-ins, and the parade is the only fundraiser the program has.

“The group that collects the most money will win the coveted trophy!” she said. “Currently, it is at Pisgah United Methodist Church. We will see if they can keep it for another year, or a new champion will get their name on the cup! If you want to be in the parade, decorate your vehicle. Hint: a LINC theme would be really good! Next, come by the ministry between 3 and 4 p.m. to drop off your donations. You will not even have to get out of your car! Pictures will be taken. Prizes will be given. And best of all, LINC Home Meals will be supported!”

Speaking of LINC Home Meals, drivers are needed monthly on the third and fifth Mondays, the second Tuesday (for the West Lincoln area), the third Friday and on one Thursday. A food-packing helper is needed on the second and fourth Thursdays; pus, volunteer truck-drivers are also needed.

Williams said the ministry needs drivers “willing to pick up food donations at grocery stores in our box truck. The perfect driver would have past experience driving box trucks, school buses or tractor-trailers. Drivers are needed on Mondays.”

In other news, the ministry's clothing closet needs all sizes of men’s underwear and emergency services needs sleeping bags, Williams added.

“We are totally out of sleeping bags,” she revealed.

The ministry’s volunteers are its lifeblood, Williams noted. If you can help out in any of the many needed capacities, or if you have students who need community-service volunteer hours for their school projects, clubs or social organizations, e-mail Saunders at
