Stanley’s own Sammy O’Banion will perform a free concert, July 24 at 6 p.m.
Living Word Ministries of Lowesville is the place to be, according to noted gospel singer and concert co-ordinator Carroll Cooke. And although the concert is free, as Cooke recently noted, a free-will offering will be taken up.
O’Banion is not only known for gospel music but also for his longtime role as a noted singer of beach music. And he is the author of both The Magical Christmas Tree and an autobiography, O’ My Goodness! His latest song, “America Now,” is available via Google, Apple and other outlets. A member of the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame, O’Banion has performed for presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush, Sr., and he is well known for singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at NFL games.
Also on the bill will be Lattimore-based Carolina. The country-gospel quartet is known for its single, “American Morning.” The group features gospel veteran Scott Whitener on lead vocals, tenor and keyboardist Chris Roberts, guitarist Riley Dotson and Chris Parker on both the bass guitar and bass vocals.
Living Word is located at 1062 NC-16 South in Lowesville. It features Southern, bluegrass and/or acoustic gospel concerts every Saturday evening.
