Emanuel Reformed Church

For the past six weeks about 150 of us in the local Body of Christ have gathered at noon at First United Methodist Church for a Lent luncheon worship series. People from many area churches come together for this annual event and it is like a homecoming of sorts where old friends connect with hugs and new friends are made outside of our own church family. For the fellowship of pastors who participate, this is a great time for us to support one another and do something together. Those who come are supporting their own pastor, but it is also a good time to enjoy hearing other pastors speak for a change.

The lunch is always delicious and the kitchen crews at First United Methodist Church deserve a standing ovation for the awesome job they did this year. Last Wednesday while we were all hugging and saying goodbye until next year, I heard several conversations where folks were saying “We should do this more often” and “Let’s find a way to come together again before next year!”

One of my favorite things about this Lent luncheon series is that I get to see so many of you who read this column. Every week as I walk through the crowd people come up to me to tell me how much they enjoy reading it. It’s really fun to hear which ones were your favorites and how you cut them out or print them to save them. Now that the Lent luncheon series is over for this year, I’ll miss that.

Even if I didn’t see you during Lent, many of you have called me, sent emails, sent letters or come up to me in the community to share what this column means to you. I have heard that you use it in your Sunday school classes, mission circles, with family members, in greeting cards, and stuck on the refrigerator. One caller from Vale told me that for some people, this column is their weekly church experience. Thank you for receiving these messages that God gives me. Your support and encouragement mean more than words can say.

I especially would like to thank the editor of the Lincoln Herald for including a faith based guest columnist in their newspaper because they don’t have to do that. I am very grateful for the opportunity to speak to God’s people every week.

I have daydreamed about getting you all together for lunch to thank you for your support of this column and have a time of fellowship. Would you like to join me?

You are invited to a covered dish lunch on Thursday May 23, 2019 at noon at Emanuel Reformed Church, 329 E. Main St. in Lincolnton 28092. We are the beautiful historic church downtown right across the street from the post office. The luncheon will be around the back in the fellowship hall. It is not necessary for you to bring a covered dish to attend but I know some of you out there are great cooks and I would love to taste your best dishes!

We want to make sure we have enough food and seats so please RSVP if you would like to come by calling me at 828-962-8196 or you can send me an email to revsusanwalker@gmail.com. Let’s have lunch!
