As Temps Rise, Christian Ministry's Needs Go Up
Helping the homeless and more

LINCOLNTON, N.C.––Most folks probably think of winter as the most critical time for Christian Ministry’s clients.

And whilst of course that’s probably true, summer, too, can be problematic, as Mitzi Williams noted this week. The executive director of Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, Williams said that even though summer is mere days away, clients need help.

“I can’t help but think about the people that come to the ministry for help,” she said. “While we are planning vacations, they are finding ways to pay their utility bills. As if that’s not stressful enough, children are home from school. As I write this, one homeless person just got into an apartment! Thank the Lord! He has been homeless for a month. His landlord would not renew his lease. They refurbished the apartment so they could charge more for it.

“Summertime is a great time to minister to families and teach about volunteering in the community,” she added. “If any groups want to advertise their Vacation Bible School here, just send us the information, and we will be happy to do so! If you have a group that wants to volunteer this summer, please call as soon as possible, so we can put you on the calendar.”

In other news, Williams noted that the annual fundraising Business Blitz is now ongoing.

“This is a fundraiser within the business community for them to support the ministry,” she said. “This runs from May through July. Please help us thank these businesses.”

And Williams released the latest stats for the ministry. These are from May.

The ministry’s emergency services helped 1,984 individuals and 745 families with food; 101 families with utilities; 76 families with household items; 19 individuals with laundry; 56 individuals with showers; and 28 individuals with blankets. LINC Home-Delivered Meals took 1,680 meals to local shut-in’s, and the soup kitchen served 3,325 meals.

“These numbers represent people in our community,” said Williams. “They are the reason that the fundraisers are so important. Please consider helping in some way.”

Christian Ministry is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 for more information.
