We all have hopes and dreams. Many of us have thrown pennies in a wishing well, hoping to receive what we asked for, but is this the way to get God to answer our prayers? What is the lesson of a wishing well? It begins with our heart’s desire.
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
We know that life is a struggle full of pain and sorrow, so how can we delight ourselves in the Lord? This passage says we should look for our happiness in our relationship with God rather than in people, places, and things. When we have a spiritual attitude, we can find our happiness in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our life. These fruits of the spirit are delicious no matter what the day brings. When we live as spiritual people, God will give us holy motives for our heart’s desire, and our wishes will be in line with His will.
1 John 5:14-15
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
Wishing wells are fun, but many requests lay on the bottom of the fountain and never come to pass. God is the one who can answer our prayers and give us our hearts desire when what we are asking for is in His will.
