Since this fact of our breath is common knowledge, it is not uncommon for people to use items to cover-up whatever their breath is telling the world. People will buy chewing gum, mouth wash, or candy to distract the person with a discernable nose. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn’t.
The people who believe they can talk their way out of the evidence on their breath, use fast talk and fantastic stories to explain why their breath has the scent of a recently used substance. However, fast talk doesn’t work with the police!
The police use a device to test the presence of alcohol in someone who is driving an automobile. It is called the, “Breathalyzer.” This instrument can determine how much alcohol is in the bloodstream by testing your breath!
Fortunately, I have never seen one of these tools! I have heard of people claiming they could manipulate or change the results of the breathalyzer by putting pennies under their tongue or not breathing hard enough into the machine. I don’t know what type of excuse you could give to an officer that he would allow you to fish through your pockets and find two pennies to place under your tongue before he administered the test! No matter how hard you try, or how smart you think you are, you cannot beat the test.
Keep this idea of a breathalyzer test in mind as you read Psalms 150:6, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”
These words are from the last verse of the last chapter in the Book of Psalms. The last thought the psalmist wanted you to consider as you finished this magnificent book was everything should give praise to God! Breath is the evidence of life, and when you acknowledge that God is the giver of your life, you will see your existence in a new and spiritual way.
If there was a, “Spiritual Breathalyzer,” that could detect praise from your breath from the last 24 hours, what would your test reveal? Would it show no activity at all towards God? Would it show some requests for answered prayer, or would it show complaints for God not intervening in the way that you expected Him to work in your life?
The Bible doesn’t say to praise God only when things are going your way, but to praise Him through every aspect of your life. I realize this is not easy, but I want to be thankful for all that Jesus has done for me and is doing in my life. I want my breath to reveal what is on the inside of me, and I want that to be gratitude for the mercy and grace that Jesus has extended to me! Take some time, right now, and consider all that Jesus has done for you, and use your breath for the reason it was created, to give God praise!
Remember, don’t give in to sin. Think about it!
