Reacquainting with old friends is a delightful experience when all the news is good. In fact, I was truly blessed recently to do just that. A friend from my past some 42 years ago along with his wife shared a meal with Jean and me. We stayed at the restaurant until the place was closing.
He was a former roommate of mine in college. He was on fire for the Lord and how his life was turned around. He shared how he was now using his education to counsel others out of emotional distress with His gifts and areas of experience.
As we talked we were able to share how God had used each of us over the years. When we were roommates in college he was focused on getting physically ready for entering the service. He flew for the Air Force and then retired to fly for a cargo transport company. His gift was being as prepared as he could for whatever he was going to attempt. In our conversations, we realized how much our lives had been blessed by our Savior.
I have reflected several times since as to what heaven will be like. I believe it will be like our meal together--returning into the company of old friends and declaring the goodness of God throughout our lives. The scriptures say we will declare the praises of our God when we arrive. We will be among familiar spirits, those who worshiped and served God. We will declare what we already knew, God is worthy of our praise.
Easter is a wonderful time to declare your praise to God. We have eternity to do so when we get there. Make it so much a part of your life until it’s natural. On the day of our resurrection we want to be at home, not strangers in a home we don’t recognize.
He is risen! To God be the glory! Happy Easter and may the blessings of God be yours!
