God's Love

The mission of Christ runs above all structures of government. It is preparing a new Kingdom of Heaven Family where God rules and God is love. Christ’s work of salvation dwells in every country around the world with the exception of a few. This Kingdom family draws all races, languages, geographical regions, educational levels, economic stations and national labels to participate. It is hard to lift our eyes above the shadows of earth and all the ways we divide ourselves; and yet, God calls us to be one in love.

This isn’t the love we see coming out of Hollywood’s film industry. This is a love that runs deeper than they could possibly fathom. This is a love that looks to the well-being of the soul and the human being who dwells therein. This is a love that seeks the best for others always. It is a love that can only be generated by the Spirit of God living through us. Yet, the divisions remain among us for many reasons. More times than not, our vision for humanity stops short of the vision of heaven.

Many years ago I learned in geometry class the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. People don’t travel life’s straightest path for many reasons. If we did, we would take Christ’s leadership to guide our lives and realize the value of loving one another. Love is the straightest path for human beings to build community and the eternal home in which God intended us to dwell. Let’s look briefly at what the Bible says about love.

 Proverbs 10:12: Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.
 John 15:12: My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
 Corinthians 16:14: Do everything in love.
 1 Peter 4:8: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.  Ephesians 5:21: Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
 1 John 4:8: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
 Corinthians 13:13: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
 Romans 12:9: Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
 Colossians 3:14: And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
 Luke 6:31: Do to others as you would have them do to you.
 Proverbs 17:17: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
 Ephesians 4:2: Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Just a closing thought: wouldn’t the world be a better place if these verses of truth were applied in every human division we encountered? How might the world come to peace, joy, encouragement, love, mutual benefit and shared blessings. Our world could use this and it starts with you and me.
