LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is seeking donors for its annual Christmas campaign.
According to executive director Mitzi Williams, all those involved in the local charitable organization are grateful for any and all help.
“Are we jumping over Thanksgiving?” she recently rhetorically asked. “No! While we are so thankful for everything this community does for the ministry, we have to start thinking about Christmas now!”
Williams continued that last year, Christian Ministry gave out food to 515 families: a total value of $108,965.32.
“We have already started giving out angels for angel trees to be able to get toy donations,” she added. “Last year, we gave out at least three new toys to 394 children. That is 1,182 toys, at $5 to $10 each. What can you do to help parents give Christmas to their children? Collect toys and food! Get your church, business or civic group to collect. What can you do to help families in need throughout the coming year? Donate financially to the fundraiser. The fundraiser helps us at Christmas and then helps us into the next year.”
Last year, local donors contributed more than $130,000 to Christian Ministry.
“I would love to see this again,” Williams observed. “Donations may also be made in honor of or in memory of someone. We will mail a card to them on your behalf or give it to you to give to them.”
Until Dec. 17, the ministry will continue to collect food. And until Dec. 22, it will continue collecting toys. Applications for Christmas food and toys and are being taken through Dec. 23. Through December, small groups of volunteers are needed to sort food. Dec. 4 at 11 a.m., there will be a distribution of used toys, and no sign-up is needed. Christmas food and toys will be distributed Dec. 23.
