Also: food pantry in need of items

LINCOLNTON––What’s cooking in the kitchen of Christian Ministry of Lincoln County?

It’s soup, of course. And according to executive director Mitzi Williams, the ministry’s soup kitchen, a vital part of the organization, needs help. The soup kitchen serves up a hot meal to countless people annually on a daily basis. And as Williams revealed this week, it needs coverage July 3.

“Now is the time for all soup kitchen volunteers to start thinking about your holiday schedule,” she added.

Right now, it’s hot, and as usual, the Carolina summer has come early. But it’s not too soon to be thinking about the cold seasons, five months hence. Williams said the ministry would be closed Nov. 24-26, Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2, respectively related to the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, so the soup kitchen needs coverage during those days.

Can you help? If so, call the ministry at (704) 732-0383 if you would like to serve.

Talking of food, the ministry’s food pantry needs crackers and pop-top canned-food items. She added that laundry soap is also needed. And the ministry’s emergency services wing needs men’s jeans in sizes 28, 30, 32 and 34. Men’s underwear is also needed, as Williams informed.

“Small and medium sizes are needed the most,” she noted.

Plus, the LINC Meals program, which delivers hot meals to local elderly and shut-in residents, needs drivers. Routes cover the West Lincoln, Boger City and Iron Station areas.

In other news, if you or your church or civic group are interested in the ministry’s volunteer projects, call Woody Saunders at (704) 488-8824. Plus, do you want to help the ministry by donations or offer your volunteer services in various capacities? You can do that, too. Just send your e-mails to christianministry2017@gmail.com if your donation is in honor or memory of someone, along with the name/address of who to notify.

You may also mail your donations to:
