STANLEY, N.C.––It’s back!
Yes, it’s time once again for Countryfest, downtown Stanley’s annual outdoor festival. This year’s version of the event is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 7, according to Chicago native Bill Ward of Stanley. A renowned computer expert and instructor, recognized as North Carolina’s biggest fan of the World Series champion Chicago Cubs baseball team, Ward is also a member of veteran gospel group We R Forgiven.
“Countryfest in the town of Stanley will have a gospel stage once again this year,” he said Thursday, referring to the event’s Gospelfest component and encouraging the public to get the word out. “All the singers and groups performing are doing so voluntarily.”
There is no charge to attend this musical part of the festival, as Ward informed.
“Come and listen to some great bluegrass, Southern and contemporary gospel music,” he added. “It’s all great music, so plan to stay the whole day!”
The gospel stage will be open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Ward himself is serving as the master of ceremonies, and there will be a special appearance by his group, We R Forgiven.
Performers are scheduled to include SPHC Bluegrass, Adam Beard and Sam Watts, all of Stanley, respectively at 11 a.m., 11:55 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. They’ll be followed by Kannapolis’s Don Herbert at 1 p.m., the Drye Family of Stanley at 1:40 p.m., Tony Burchette of Morganton at 2:20 p.m. and Stanley’s own We R Forgiven to close out the event at 3 p.m.
Providing the sound are Darryl Watts and Rankin Sound.
