Mother Teresa said, “Kindness has converted more people than zeal, science or eloquence.” One of the greatest outreach campaigns for reaching the lost is helping them find their home among the Christian family by showing kindness. The world offers many ‘homes’ where someone can claim to belong. God on the other hand, holds out His hand in love for all humanity; and yet, people find it hard wanting to make their home with God. Maybe His people have something to do with that outcome.
When the people of God make room for others to come and make their homes with them, our family grows. This past weekend our family celebrated a wedding and by the work of an army of friends we decorated and set up for a host of guests. “A good time was had by all,” as they say. As is always the case, the reception ended and cleanup began. It was again a host of family and friends who pitched in to help with cleanup. Putting things back in their place for worship the next morning was accomplished by friends and family.
It is the family part here I want to focus on for a moment. Brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, cousins and children pitched in and put things back in order within an hour that took two days to arrange in a different array. This could be an article on many hands make light work; however, it is more about noticing the work of families lightening the load for a family. All I can say is that should be the nature of our spiritual family, lightening the load for one another, including strangers. What is it they need support with and finding a way to support them? As Baptists, we call it missions. As Christians, we call it evangelism. As individuals, we call it kindness, acceptance, love and making room in the inn for those who come our way.
Make room for others to enter your life. It will be worth it to you.
