Dr. Stanley Spence, Pastor
First Baptist Church, Lincolnton, N.C.

In the day of my Resurrection I wonder . . . How deeply will the love of God overwhelm me? Will broken strings of relationships vibrate once more? Will feelings that lie buried live again? Will joy magnify the Lord? If so, then why not now! Any farmer who can drive a straight line with his tractor knows to look at a distant point, and he will drive toward that point until he gets there and will have a straight row.

Life is similar because when we see things only in the here and now we miss the long term outcome of our decisions. Those who took an action based on imperfect knowledge have found themselves embarrassed later. Judas betrayed Jesus and the speculation is that he was forcing Jesus to show who He was by turning Him in to the authorities. His remorse and suicide reveals his regret for having turned in the Savior of the world. Pilate tried to wash his hands of an inconvenient decision. He caved in to immediate pressure of the mob. He sentenced Jesus to death having found no wrong in him. Hoping to preserve his life, Peter denied Jesus when challenged about knowing Him. Peter was filled with remorse and regret.

Imagine all their shock when Jesus rose from the grave. He is still here and we blew it, they must have thought. We mess up from time to time, but God grants forgiveness and mercy. Giving to others is a gift initiated from God. What greater gift can a human being receive than forgiveness and mercy? It is one of the moments when things have been put right that can restore broken relationships. These broken relationships can be with business acquaintances as well as family and friends. One day, those who by faith are going to be sharing heaven with Jesus will be reunited in praising God. Eternity will begin and the broken relationships will be restored--or you will be choosing to remain outside the Kingdom of God if you continue to nurse your hate rather than restoration. It is in that moment you may realize you worshipped your hate more than God and His love. Why wait until then? Repent now and live in the restoration of this moment. You will one day when every knee bows and every tongue confesses “Jesus is Lord.” Live in the victory now and stop wasting time.
