LOWESVILLE, N.C.––Local gospel favorites the Pathfinders are returning to Living Word Ministries.
The Mount Holly-based trio will perform a free concert at the Lowesville church, coming up this Saturday, June 22, at 6 p.m. And sharing the bill will be Backline, a gospel bluegrass band out of Spartanburg, S.C., according to Carroll Cooke, the church’s concert co-ordinator.
The Pathfinders are comprised of Dearl Lemons of Alexis, Dawn McGuire of Mount Holly and Gary Russell of Charlotte. The group has been around for more than a quarter-century now. Their multiple singles released have included several songs in the top 80 on the Singing News charts. Their most recent single, “Mercy Answered,” made the top 10. And they’ve seen several top 40 hits on other gospel music charts.
McGuire recently spoke about the group’s future.
“We definitely see ourselves continuing the work we are doing now for a long time,” she said. “We don’t ever want to get to the point that we can’t go and sing in the local churches. However, we’re going to go through every door that God opens for us. We don’t want to lose sight of why He has called us into this ministry. It is our goal and obligation to spread the gospel to as many people as we can. We are honored that God has chosen us and placed us in this ministry.”
The award-winning members of Backline are Zachary Carter on the banjo, Jason Belue on the stand-up bass, Katelyn Ingardia on the guitar, Milom Williams II on the mandolin and Travis Tucker on the Dobro. All five sing as well. The group is relatively new, having just been established in 2016.
Cooke reminded the public that Living Word features concerts by Southern gospel bands on the second Saturday of every month and bluegrass gospel groups on the fourth Saturday.
