LOWESVILLE, N.C.––Get ready for some great gospel, Elvis-style.
Elvis Presley may have been the king of rock and roll. But he was also well known for his gospel music. “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “He Touched Me” were all big hits for the Big E.
And now, you can hear them just the way Elvis himself would’ve done them. How? By attending the Dennis Cook concert at Living Word Ministries on Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. According to concert co-ordinator Carroll Cooke, the performance is free, but a freewill offering will be taken up.
The Georgia-based Cook is well known for singing gospel tunes in Elvis’s famous style. Much honored throughout his gospel career, Cook was recognized as the 2015 Lighthouse Gospel Music Soloist of the Year. And in 2016, he won the Lighthouse Gospel Music Soloist and Male Vocalist of the Year honors.
About 80 percent of his répertoire includes either gospel numbers that Presley himself made famous or that Cook sings in what critics have called the very spit and image of Elvis’s trademark style.
“Dennis sings only Elvis songs,” said Cooke, “and he does a super job of sounding just like him.”
And Cook himself recently added that he simply loves the Lord with all his heart. He wants to serve Him in every way. Cook loves people and putting smiles on their faces. But most of all, his main goal is to see souls saved.
Living Word is located at 1062 NC-16 South in Lowesville.
