St. Luke’s Episcopal Blessing Of The Animals, Saturday, October 5 --- Our pets are a blessing to us, join us in blessing them! Bring your pet, or photo of your pet, to A Blessing of the Animals at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 5 at 3 p.m. In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, we invite you to bring your pet to be blessed, to remember those pets who have died, and to celebrate the gift God has given us in all his creatures, especially those who are our companions. For the safety and comfort of all attending animals should be leashed or contained in safe carriers. McKendree UMC BBQ Chicken Fundraiser, Saturday, October 5 --- BBQ Chicken Dinner fundraiser in the Fellowship Hall at McKendree United Methodist Church beginning at 4 p.m. and running until sold out. The barbecued chicken dinner includes a 1/2 chicken with macaroni salad, baked beans, roll, dessert and drink (carry out available). Requested donation is $10 per plate. Mt. Zion Baptist Homecoming, Sunday, October 6 --- Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Cherryville will be having their Homecoming Service on Sunday, October 6 at 10 a.m. Please join us as we celebrate 162 years of ministry. Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Homecoming, Sunday, October 6 --- The congregational family of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church welcomes all to their annual Homecoming service on Sunday, October 6 with one service at 10 a.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Timothy M. Smith (Bishop NC Evangelical Lutheran Church). Pastor Kate Crecelius will be installed as Part-time Associate Pastor for Mt. Pisgah, and Boy Scout Troop 275 will be assisting during the event. The service will include special music from harpist, Grace Wepner, soloists, Meredith Priestley and Lauren Wasmund, singing from the Mt. Pisgah Choir and Mt. Pisgah’s Kid’s in Christ Choir, as well as Brass Ensemble performances from the Mt. Pisgah Brass Ensemble joined by students from West Middle School. Following the service, everyone is welcome to bring a dessert to share, and enjoy the luncheon of BBQ and pork with plenty of side dishes for a terrific meal. Christian Ministry Amazing Race Against Hunger, Sunday, October 6 --- It's a race; it's a fundraiser--it's the Amazing Race Against Hunger and it happens Sunday at 3 p.m. Teams will begin at Christian Ministry on Poplar Street in Lincolnton by assembling a car for one of the team members to wear throughout the race. There will be Six (6) Pit Stops throughout downtown Lincolnton and on the Marcia Cloninger Rail Trail. Teams don't have to participate in the race, they can choose to walk the route as a team, or you simply hop on the trail and walk to the park. The team that turns in the most money will take home the Winner’s Cup. Proceeds will benefit the Christian Ministry programs to feed the hungry. Crouse UMC, Crouse Fire Department 50th Anniversary, Tuesday, October 8 --- The Crouse Community History and Photo Project will be recognizing the Crouse Fire Department for 50 years of service to the Crouse Community at their October 8 meeting from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Crouse United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Pleasant Grove Church Road in Crouse (across from the Post Office). A small reception will be held after the meeting. The group wants to take the opportunity to invite all past/present members of the Crouse Fire Department along with their families and the entire Crouse Community to attend the event. Speakers from local and state government offices will be recognizing the accomplishments of the Crouse Fire Department along with an address from Charles Hayes the current Crouse FD Chief. The only remaining original members of the organization will also be present (Oscar Sappenfield and Glenn Reep) along with Betty Davis who was instrumental in the fundraising required to build and support the fire department.
