LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry is mourning one of its own.

As executive director Mitzi Williams revealed Friday, noted volunteer Charles “Pop” Stroup, a veteran of 16 years of helping the ministry, recently passed away.

“The ministry is saddened by the loss of one of our longtime and much-loved volunteers,” she said. “Since 2004, Pop was a daily volunteer at Christian Ministry. He would greet clients, volunteers and staffers as they went in and out of the dock. We all miss him very much!”

Williams added that it is the spirit of such volunteers that keeps the ministry going.

In other news, the ministry continues to get its ducks in a row for spring. Its volunteers are working on Easter baskets to be given out soon. And Williams noted that the ministry is preparing its first official volunteer appreciation bash. More details will follow about this as soon as possible.

And the clothing closet needs women’s underwear in all sizes. Donations for the closet are taken at the ministry, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Williams also released the latest statistics for the ministry.

In February, she said, the soup kitchen served 3,368 patrons. LINC Home-Delivered Meals brought out 1,516 meals to local elderly and shut-in residents. The ministry’s emergency services program gave food out to 411 families and 1,484 individuals. And the people of Pisgah United Methodist Church gave out food to 175 families and 458 people at the recent mobile food drop.

“As always,” said Williams, “keep the ministry, the clients, volunteers and staffers in your prayers!”
