LINCOLNTON––As America continues to respond to the Wuhan flu, Christian Ministry is also making changes. Among them, the soup kitchen on S. Poplar St. is no longer serving meals inside. They are handed out to-go to those arriving at the kitchen.
They are also limiting volunteers to avoid spreading the virus through personal contact. Want to volunteer? Before doing so, call Teen Sigmon at (704) 748-4961.
Christian Ministry’s emergency services staffers continue to interview clients that need food and financial help, according to Executive Director Mitzi Williams.
“If we have families that need extra food at home due to schools being closed, we will assess each situation and determine how much extra is needed,” she said.
And Williams continued that the ministry’s dock is closed to clients and any extra volunteers. Call Woody Saunders at the aforementioned telephone number before coming to volunteer.
The ministry’s clothing room is closed. Showers are not available, nor are laundry services, furniture and household items, as Williams informed.
“We cannot take donations of clothes at this time,” she said. “We will re-evaluate in two weeks.
“The ministry’s goal is to continue to meet the needs in our community while keeping clients, volunteers and staffers safe,” she added. “We will continue to monitor what government protocols are put in place and work within them.”
Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information on upcoming efforts and volunteer opportunities for individuals and church and business groups.
