Making The Most Of "Re-Creation"
FBC Kids will be spreading the love of Jesus on the Rail Trail. We would love for ANYONE who is interested to join us - even if you aren’t a kid. We will be drawing pictures, leaving encouraging words, and sharing favorite scriptures to brighten our city via sidewalk chalk art. How great would it be if we had enough people come out that we could cover every foot of the Rail Trail! All ages are welcome - we will have sidewalk chalk paint for the younger ones in easy to squeeze containers. Come with a list of your favorite Bible verses!

Dr. Stanley Spence, Pastor
First Baptist Church, Lincolnton, N.C.

What happens when we suffer delayed satisfaction? During this season of disease, we are experiencing delayed gratification. Because of COVID-19, we have delayed or altered every social event there is. School is altered, so is the church; shopping for groceries and supplies, and all sporting events have changed. We want everything to return to normal as soon as possible, and yet when we return. it would be nice if we started with a new and improved attitude.

Many want a return to the familiar. There is nothing wrong with that. Many want changes to be put into effect which are long overdue in their estimation for whatever they saw as needing changed.

The greatest thing we will see as a result of this societal reboot will depend on what we fill our hearts with during this time. If we grow in our knowledge and understanding of God, we will be prepared for a different society for the better. However, current trends are boat sales are up; recreational vehicles are being sold at record numbers; bicycle sales are up, and retreat vacation homes are going in great numbers. It seems as though we are filling our senses with recreational endeavors. Being a former student of recreation, I recognize the need for ‘Re-Creation’. Our bodies need a change of pace and routine from time to time. However, the future is tied to our investment of spirit, mind, and body. Re-creation as God sees it is much different than we see it.

How should one view recreation? Fellowship is a great part of the Christian life. All recreation is not spent around others. Some re-create while gardening; some while riding a boat, some while camping and some while getting away from everything to find tranquility. The power of your being re-created is in what you are doing in the time you are retreating. Are you using the time to seek God--or are you just killing time as in doing nothing for anyone else? I hope you will use your isolation to deepen your time with God. It may be you can turn your retreating to investing in your future.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” Isaiah 56:6
