Christian Ministry Thanks Volunteers, Supporters

LINCOLNTON––It is perhaps one of the wettest summers North Carolina has seen.

And whilst of course that’s mighty good for farmers, it’s not so good when you don’t have a roof over your head. Christian Ministry of Lincoln County Executive Director Mitzi Williams addressed that on Friday.

“Today, God has seen fit to water the earth,” said Williams. “My day started with people huddled under our overhang. These people live in the woods around town. Thanks to you and all the generous people who continue to support the ministry, I was able to invite them in to our lobby. Here, they can dry off, relax and watch television (“Leave It to Beaver”). Our soup kitchen is bringing people in and spreading them out as well.

“Thanks to volunteers and now Atrium Health, we are in a supply chain of masks,” she added. “We can give them out to clients, LINC Meal recipients and volunteers alike. Thank you to everyone that made this possible!”

Williams also expressed gratitude, re the recent benefit golf event, which brought in more than $9,000.

“I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone that supported our golf tournament!” she said, adding, “Everyone had a tee time, and everyone was ‘socially distanced.’ And if you were there, then you know that everyone sweated! People worked really hard to support the ministry, and we appreciated it! This fundraiser was so important.”

Since July 1, she revealed, the ministry’s emergency services has spent more than $10,000 helping people with their rent and utilities.

“Our satellite offices are up and running!” she added. “As with any new project, we are still working out the kinks. But we are so excited to be able to reach out to people in new ways. As we continue to help people with the bills and food, please keep the ministry in your prayers. There are so many needs in our community, and I know that God answers prayers!”

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 207 S. Poplar St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information on these and other upcoming efforts, as well as volunteer opportunities for individuals and church and business groups.
