LINCOLNTON––Christmas may be three months away.
But according to Mitzi Williams, that time will pass in the blink of an eye, so it’s not too soon to start thinking about it. The executive director of Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, Williams said Thursday that her organization is beginning to gear up for its biggest time of the year and the annual Christmas angels charitable efforts for local children.
“Can you believe it?” she rhetorically asked. “It’s almost time for us to start thinking about Christmas angels. How many will your church or business need this year? I know 2020 has been a very exhausting year in terms of illness, job loss and the loss of loved ones. But let’s remember all those little ones who are still counting on Christmas to lift them up. Let’s give them something to be excited about. Let’s give them something good to end the year!”
In other news, Williams said the ministry is not accepting clothing donations at this time, as volunteer sorters are needed to sort these items.
“However,” she added, “we still need certain items: women’s bra’s in all sizes––new bra’s please; also women’s underwear and socks; and men’s pants in sizes 30 through 34.”
The ministry’s emergency services are another important part of the group’s efforts. Homeless clients are in need of new or used backpacks, as Williams noted.
“Also,” she continued, “winter will be here soon. We could use more blankets.”
