For Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministries (ECCCM) and The Corner Table, the month of October is normally synonymous with the Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk. The purpose of the walk is to raise funds for hunger relief efforts in Eastern Catawba County, and to heighten awareness of the hunger issue within our community. Sadly, due to COVID-19 and safety issues, the walk is cancelled.
Also due to the pandemic, hunger is even more prevalent, and therefore the need for funds is greater than ever. Since the onset of COVID-19, we have seen a 60% increase of need in our community. ECCCM and The Corner Table are asking that despite the cancellation, you will find it in your heart to support our hunger relief efforts. So this year, we’re asking you to take a different kind of walk—to walk in the shoes of your neighbors in need: to imagine being in their situation, unable to provide food for your family because of circumstances in many cases brought on by the pandemic. We’re asking you to walk in their shoes—mentally if not physically—and to dig a little deeper if you’re able to help provide for their needs in the spirit of Matthew 25:35. All ECC Hunger Walk donations will be shared evenly between these two organizations, and you may rest assured that your gift will be used to feed the hungry here in Eastern Catawba County.
Please make checks payable to ECC Hunger Walk, and submit your donations to ECCCM at Post Office Box 31, Newton, NC 28658. Thank you for helping ECCCM and The Corner Table in our common ministry of feeding those who suffer from hunger, for as Jesus said, “ as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
