LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry is now interviewing local qualifying families for their Christmas needs.

That’s the word this week from executive director Mitzi Williams. Thursday, Williams told The Herald that her organization is signing up those in need, from now until Dec. 23.

“I am really trying to spread the word that we have started interviewing for Christmas,” she said. “People who want to sign up for Christmas food and/or toys can go to our Website to see what is needed for the interview.”

 That’s www.christianministryoflincolncounty.org/christmas-ministry.

“We are very busy and need your support,” said Williams.

She cited the following dates. Now through Dec. 18, the ministry is collecting food. Through Dec. 22, it is collecting toys. Applications for both are being taken through Dec. 22. And Nov. 24-Dec. 5, small groups of volunteers are needed to sort school food. Used toys will be distributed at Christian Ministry, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m., and there is no sign-up needed. Christmas food and toys will be distributed Dec. 23.

Want to donate food or toys? Come by the ministry’s downtown Lincolnton offices at 207 S. Poplar St., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

For Christmas angels, contact Angie Pooley by telephone or e-mail respectively at (704) 732-0383 or christianministry1977@gmail.com.

Williams informed that Christmas angel trees are now popping up all over town.

“They are in your churches, stores and the banks,” she said. “If you want to have an angel tree, just call us, and we will get you as many angels as you want! Maybe you don’t want to do an angel tree but want to collect toys. Have a toy drive or have a toy party! After enough toys have come in, the bagging starts. Volunteers will start gathering toys for each child and get them ready to be given out.”

And to volunteer if you can help out the ministry in these or other ways, contact Woody Saunders at (704) 488-8824 or christianministry.volunteers@gmail.com.

This year’s monetary goal for the ministry’s Christmas efforts is $50,000. Williams added that last year, the group raised more than $104,000.

“These funds will help meet the needs at Christmas and the coming year,” she explained.
