LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is heading into the busiest time of its year.

On Wednesday, executive director Mitzi Williams talked about this and the many donors making the ministry’s work possible.

“This week has been a very busy week,” said Williams. “Our thanks go out to all of those who donated food. Thank you to the Turkey Federation, which donated more than 130 turkeys. Thank you to the Boy Scouts of America, who collected more than two tons of food. And thank you to the Lincoln County School System, which collected more than 60,000 pounds of food.”

In other news, as she continued, the ministry is still signing up clients for Christmas.

“We are very busy,” she said, “and we need your support.”

Food is being collected until Dec. 18 and toys, until Dec. 22. Small groups of volunteers are needed to sort school food, now through Dec. 5. Also Dec. 5, used toys will be distributed, and there is no sign-up needed. Christmas food and toys will be distributed Dec. 23. The donation drop-off site is at Christian Ministries’ downtown Lincolnton offices at 207 S. Poplar St., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Speaking of food, the ministry’s soup kitchen could use a few good volunteers. It needs coverage on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Call Williams at (704) 732-0383 to get on the schedule. And the ministry’s emergency services arm is in need of blankets.

For more about Christmas angels, contact Angie Pooley by telephone or e-mail: (704) 732-0383 or christianministry1977@gmail.com. To volunteer, contact Woody Saunders at (704) 488-8824 or christianministry.volunteers@gmail.com.

And Williams cited an upcoming big, family-friendly event at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church in Vale. The church, located at 261 Cedar Grove Church Road, will have a drive-through Nativity scene, Dec. 19 and 20, 5:30-7 p.m.

“Happy thanksgiving to all,” said Williams, “from Christian Ministry!”
