LOWESVILLE––Bessemer City’s own Dixie Revival will perform a free concert, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.
Living Word Ministries of Lowesville is the place to be, according to noted gospel singer and concert co-ordinator Carroll Cooke. And although the concert is free, as Cooke recently noted, a free-will offering will be taken up.
Dixie Revival began its musical journey nine years ago, when Gaston County native and pastor’s son Matt Branch created a country music band called Dixie Still. In just two years, the band evolved from a hometown band playing local music in local venues to the two-time Carolina Music Award-winning, Nashville-recording vocal group featuring Branch and wife Holly. They travelled with a five-piece band that featured lead guitarist Mike Dufault of Bessemer City-based Tire Swing Records. The band enjoyed hits on country radio and toured throughout the South and overseas.
Led by their Christian faith and nurtured by their Southern roots, the group later decided to present their faith-based, positive-message country music in churches, community events and other family-friendly venues.
Dixie Revival has garnered praise from far and wide. Among the group’s fans is CNN reporter Holly Firfer.
“I just got my Dixie Revival CD, and I haven’t stopped playing it since!” Firfer recently said. “Their harmonies are tight, and their songs tell beautiful stories with that authentic country feel but with just enough of a bit of a rock sound that gets your heart pumping. Holly’s voice has such an incredible tone with a pureness that allows the story she tells to pierce through. And Matthew and Mike will melt you with melodies. There is a reason this group won Best Country Band at the Carolina Music Awards. I am hooked!”
Living Word is located at 1062 NC-16 South in Lowesville. It features Southern, bluegrass and/or acoustic gospel concerts every Saturday evening.
