Organizers cancel event

LINCOLNTON––The annual “Cool Event” ice cream social fundraiser has been put on ice.

Yep, this year’s event is cancelled, according to Christian Ministry of Lincoln County spokeswoman Angie Pooley. On Friday, the ministry released a statement explaining that the event––originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29, at the Salem Lutheran Church and United Church of Christ in Lincolnton––has in fact been scotched.

The event features homemade ice cream in clay bowls made by local potters. Funds raised help Christian Ministry with its mission of serving the unfortunate at local levels.

“It is with reluctance that we have unfortunately decided to cancel,” said Pooley. “We feel it is just too risky to take a chance. With the COVID-19 numbers going in the wrong direction, we feel it is in the best interest of the congregation, the staff at Christian Ministry and the community to cancel again this year.

“We had been looking forward to the event,” she added, “and we wished we could host some kind of event with no contact. But I just don’t see any way to do that. We apologize for the lateness of the decision. But, as you know, these decisions have to be made taking into consideration ever-changing dynamics. Maybe next year!”
