Carolina Caring Cutest Pet Contest: Carolina Caring welcomes donations and photos for its first ever Cutest Pet Contest, which supports its local Pet Peace of Mind® Program aimed at helping Hospice patients care for their pets. The contest can be entered by making a donation to Pet Peace of Mind at and submitting a photo of your pet to by Thursday, March 11. Voting begins on Monday, March 15 on Carolina Carings Foundation Facebook page. The winner will be announced Monday, March 22. Proceeds from the contest help to provide pet care services for patients who are unable to care for their pets while in Carolina Carings Hospice program. Services include assistance with pet food, financial help with routine veterinary care, transporting pets to veterinary appointments, pet boarding, grooming, walking and more. Robinson-Lineberger Literary Competition: The Arts Council of Lincoln County is preparing now for the 37th competition. The deadline for postmarked entries is April 13. Poetry entries are limited to one per person: on any subject, in any style, free verse, blank verse or rhymed. Each should be limited to 32 lines or less. Prose entries are likewise limited to one per person: an essay or short story on any subject, limited to about 750 words. Entries in both categories must be titled, original, unpublished and must never have won a cash award before. The competition is open to students in the Lincoln County Schools and to adults. Only students have to be from Lincoln County. Adults may be from neighboring counties. Each school is asked to screen its entries and must submit only the best works. Student entries must come through the school and not be delivered individually to the LCS Central Office or to the Arts Council of Lincoln County. Long View Lions Club Team Bass Fishing Tournament REGISTRATION: The Long View Lions Club will host their 11th Annual Team Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lake Hickory Wittenburg Access, 89 Wildlife Access Road, Hickory, NC. The tournament will be held regardless of allowable weather conditions, however, the tournament officials may change starting times as it is deemed necessary for the safety of the contestants. Snow date will be Saturday April 3, 2021 at the same time and location. Entry Fee is $90 per boat/team, cash or check only, with deadline of March 21, 2021 for pre-registering. The first 25 pre-registered boats/teams will receive an event T-shirt with our sponsors’ names printed on the back. All tournament rules should be read carefully before signing the completed entry form when registering. Prizes to be awarded: First Place $1,000; Second Place $500; Third Place $300. There will be a 100% PAYBACK SIDE POT and 100% PAY BACK BIG FISH POT. A $200 Kicker for Foothills Marine Purchase Boat to the winner.  In addition, there will be a drawing for several door prizes. This event is a sanctioned Skeeter Real Money Tournament. In accordance with NC Wildlife Resources Commission COVID 19 Guidelines, face covering and social distance must be followed at all times except when on the water. Herter-ONeal Scholarship Applications Available: Nominations are being sought for a $750 scholarship offered by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Administrative Professionals Association (NCCEAPA) through March 12, 2021.  The scholarship is available to North Carolina residents pursuing a college degree (Associates and/or Bachelors) in business or a business-related field of study.  Applicants must be enrolled to attend classes at a college during the 2021-2022 school year. The scholarship is awarded annually to honor the work and dedication of Edith Herter and Frances ONeal, co-leaders in forming the NCCEAPA in 1973.
