Lowesville Gospel Concerts/Vineyard Church, The Lore Family and The Pine Ridge Boys, Saturday, August 13: Vineyard Church (formerly Living Word Ministries), 1062 South Hwy 16, Stanley (Lowesville), NC presents on Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m. The Lore Family and The Pine Ridge Boys. As always, NO ADMISSION COST, a freewill offering only to be received, and you are invited. We have concerts every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Kandace Helms Memorial Five-K Registration: The 6th Annual Kandace Helms Memorial Five-K event is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Betty Ross Park, 800 Madison St., Lincolnton, NC 28092. The event starts with a kids fun run at 8 a.m. Registration for this ends Sept. 7. The timed five-kilometer (just more than three miles) race starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration for this is $30 per participant, and the fee increases after Aug. 31. Same-day registration will also be available, starting at 7 a.m. T-shirts and participation medals are guaranteed with registration through Sept 1. Winners in multiple age categories will be awarded. The KHF has grown to be able to offer three total scholarships to deserving high school seniors in Lincoln County. To learn more, e-mail your queries to kandacehelms5k@gmail.com. The Eastern Catawba County Hunger Walk: Walkers of all ages and athletic abilities are invited to participate in the walk as individuals or together as families, groups or teams on Sunday, October 16 at 3 p.m. in Downtown Newton. Each participant solicits sponsorship (donations) from friends and associates prior to the event. Participants who collect at least $25 will receive a t-shirt as long as supplies last, BUT if you register online by the registration deadline and enter your t-shirt size, a t-shirt will be reserved for you. T-shirt requests/sizes MUST be received by Thursday, September 22 to guarantee your size. T-shirts can be picked up by a team representative at ECCCM on Wednesday, October 12 or Thursday, October 13 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. T-shirts not picked up on these days will be available at the event. Registration and the event will begin at the Frank & Sue Jones Amphitheater in downtown Newton (across from the 1924 Courthouse.) Check-in will open at 2 p.m. with an opening ceremony (awards and warm-up activities) beginning at 2:45 p.m. Awards will be given for the largest team, the top team fundraiser, and the top individual fundraiser. The walk will start at 3 p.m. This year there will be the original 5K (3.1 mile) route and a 1-mile route. Both routes are on sidewalks in downtown Newton. Children and family pets are welcome to walk with you! Once you finish the walk, there will be ice cream for you to enjoy while you visit with other walkers.
