Mt. Zion Baptist Summit Trace Outdoor Concert, Sunday, October 4: Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the sounds of sweet Christian Music as our church celebrates 163 years of ministry. Summit Trace will be in concert on Sunday, October 4 at 6 p.m. A love offering will be taken to help support their ministry. Mt. Zion is located at 112 Mt. Zion Church Road, Cherryville, NC  28021.
Fourth Annual Kandace Helms Run event of five kilometers (a distance just more than three miles) will not be held on a single day at a given time and place this year. It will instead be up to individual runners to run when they want at any time between Oct. 10 and 24. Runners may submit their times to Fitbit, RunKeeper, Strava and more to be added to the official participant results. Even a treadmill will do. The Helms Run is open to everyone from competitive runners to walkers, including seniors and children. Event shirts and participation medals are guaranteed with your registration through Oct. 1. The local packet pick-up will take place Oct. 10 in the parking lot of First Federal Savings Bank (the Boger City office). Awards will be given for the overall top three participants. Submitted times must be verified by race directors. The Kandace Helms Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 that funds a scholarship program for Lincoln County graduates and other youth organizations. Annual Amateur Photo Competition: Attention, local shutterbugs! The Arts Council of Lincoln County is announcing its annual amateur photography competition. Entries will be taken 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Oct. 12, and again, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., as well as 4-6 p.m., Oct. 13, at the Lincoln Cultural Center at 403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. The photographs will be exhibited in the arts council galleries at the Lincoln Cultural Center, Oct. 15-29. A reception and awards presentation for the photographers and public will be held Oct. 22, 6:30-8 p.m., also at the LCC. There are categories for both adults and youth. The latter must have the written consent of parents or guardians. Adults wishing to participate must be 18 years of age or older and engage in photography for pleasure and a hobby pursuit, rather than for financial gain or professional reasons.
