LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Lincoln Herald had been a dream of Larry Dellinger's for many years. I don't know this because I was there when he came up with the idea, but because he told me.

In May of 2012, he began experimenting with a system for posting obituaries and ads. Eventually, he recruited volunteers to write articles, sell ads and to handle various administrative tasks. Finally, on August 29 of 2012, the Lincoln Herald was born.

The narrow hallway that leads to the Main Street office smelled like coffee, which to me always meant home. I didn't ever think I would walk down that hallway but there I was and the moment I met him, I couldn't help but be taken in by his charm. Larry was always so warm and kind. He offered me coffee within the first minute I was in the office.

After offering me the position, he was always so careful to make sure I understood that he didn't want to waste my time and that he thought I was a valuable member of the team, that I was a productive member of the team. He valued my skills. He made sure that I knew he appreciated the work I did and I never forgot that. I will never forget that.

To say that I wish Larry was writing an anniversary article is a mild understatement.

On behalf of Jay Dellinger, publisher of the Lincoln Herald,  a million thanks to all of the dedicated readers of the Lincoln Herald who have come to this website and spread the word of how they are trying to fulfill Larry’s dream of being the voice for them. For the past three years the Lincoln Herald has also had many volunteers that have shown how important it is to help others, all coming from different backgrounds but with one similarity – to share the news. Thank you for being our hand to the community, you are one of the reasons behind the success of the Lincoln Herald.
