The Lincoln County Historical Association will present a program "The Lives of Enslaved African-Americans" Saturday (Nov. 24th) 10 AM - 4 PM at the Historic Ramsour's Mill Battleground Park, 301 Jeb Seagle Road in Lincolnton.
[The event will be held whether it's raining or not. If it's raining, they'll move part of the program into the cabin on the site and the other on the porch.]
Nicole Moore and Dontavius Williams will bring history to life for those who attend.
Cost for the event is $10 and you can pay there if you haven't already purchased a ticket in advance.
Nicole Moore is a public historian who focuses on the interpretation of slavery at living history sites. Those attending the program can hear her talk about the experience of being enslaved while cooking a meal over a fire, illustrating the skills needed by enslaved cooks as a part of their daily duties. She does her presentation in the third person, so she is able to talk with visitors while demonstrating activities that enslaved people were required to do.
Dontavius williams presents a 'living history' he entitles "The Chronicles of Adam." As the character Adam, an enslaved man, he provides historical facts and lessons about the life of an enslaved person in a powerful performance.
The old saying goes "you had to be there," and in 21st Century America this is about as close as you can get.
