LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Approximately 60 West Lincoln High School seniors began their final high school year with ‘Prayer By The Rock’ and a ‘Chinese Lantern Kickoff’ on Sunday, August 11 by the school Spirit Rock. The event was planned and hosted by the parents of the Class of 2020.

Pastor Jaie Warlick, a West Lincoln High School Alumni, started the evening with his middle school through college days testimony about how he fell upon temptation during the very age of these students. He explained to them that you can be a Christian and still have fun but the alcohol and drug temptations will be there and the best way to avoid it is to stay abstinent even if it means calling your parents or him to come get you if you’re put in an uncomfortable situation. He closed his speech with a prayer to cover all students and faculty throughout the year.

Lily Tallent, another West Lincoln High School Alumni, stepped in with a song and the seniors then hung out in fellowship while getting the lanterns ready to light the sky to bring a positive last-first day to their West Lincoln High School days.

West Lincoln High School has about 180 seniors who will attend this year. The school principal, Brian Clary, stood in support of the gathering and always exudes as a positive supporter and role model for the student body.

Howard’s Creek Fire Department and N.C. Forestry Service, Robin Howard, served the event to make sure safety was first.
