It was the first time the BPW's Apple Queen Pageant had to be viewed online instead of in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  It was also the first time (so far as we remember) that twins have been in the competition for the title.  One of those twins was crowned the 2020 Lincoln County Apple Queen.

Ava Parnell and sister Grace are both starting their senior year at North Lincoln High School this month.  Both are talented athletes, competing in track & cross country.  Both are excellent students and have many other talents.  Ava has won awards for her artwork.

2019 Apple Queen Kayla Jackson crowned her successor, who broke into tears on hearing that she was this year's winner.  She receives a $3,000 scholarship and other prizes.

Before she was crowned the new Apple Queen, Ava was selected as the swimsuit competition winner.  Emily Dellinger was named evening gown winner.

This year's third runner-up (winner of a $750 scholarship) is Georgia Dellinger.  Second runner-up (and winner of a $1,000 scholarship) is Ashlynn Eurey.  First runnerr-up and winner of a $1,500 scholarship is Gwen Reep.  The Miss Congiality award was presented to Addie Milburn.

This year's pageant was held at the Lincoln Cultural Center.  Only parents of the contestants and those involved with the pageant were allowed to be in the audience there; everyone else had to watch the pageant online.

When Larry Dellinger started the Lincoln Herald in 2012, he knew the world had changed.  He had spent over half a century in the newspaper business.  He knew that the future of news would be the internet. By 2018, 64% of US adults said they sometimes got news from a news website or app, a percentage equaled only by television. Only 41% said they still read newspapers in print.

The Lincoln Herald has been providing local news FREE online since 2012.  We continue to grow every year.  We post links to all our articles on Facebook, where 13,000 follow us, and on Twitter; and over 6,000 readers have signed up for our FREE daily email service and get an email every day with links to the articles we've posted since the previous day's email.
