A Different Kind Of Fourth

This will be a different kind of Fourth of July.  America's birthday this year will be celebrated without most of the traditional parades; some fireworks shows will still happen, but others have been cancelled, and those that are held won't all offer a closeup view.

The COVID-19 pandemic is getting worse instead of better and the result has been the cancellation of many annual events.  The Denver Area Business Association's Fireworks & Music Spectacular that was originally scheduled for last Saturday (June 27th), then postponed until July 25th, has now been cancelled for this year.  The Tucker's Grove Camp Meeting won't be held.  For now, Rock Springs Camp Meeting is still planned, but the Children's Fun Day that was originally planned for August 1st has been cancelled.

The Cleveland County Fair won't be held this year.  The Lincoln County Apple Festival hasn't been cancelled at this time--but that possibility has been discussed.  From the Apple Festival Facebook page:  "The Board has discussed canceling the Apple Festival in 2020 and, while we appreciate input, we cannot make a decision like this based solely on a consensus of local citizens.

"Our final decision will be made as a board, and based on factors such as infection data for Lincoln County, projections for October, NC’s pandemic restrictions, and recommendations by the City’s Safety Committee."

Lincolnton won't have an Independence Day Parade this year, but the fireworks show at Lincolnton High School Stadium will go on--but you won't be able to watch it there.  Not only will the stadium  be closed to spectators; the area around the stadium will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC. There won't be any viewing areas at the stadium and the high school parking lot will be blocked off as will Jeb Seagle Road and Skip Lawing Road. It isn't quite the same watching it on tv (or the internet) but the fireworks show will be live-streamed by Lincolnton Live! and on the City of Lincolnton Facebook page. It begins at 9 PM.

Most years, you might have wanted to visit Betty Ross Park--but most of the reasons for a visit aren't available this year.  The pool has been closed until further notice and the playground remains closed; the splash pad at First Federal Park on N. Poplar St. is also closed.

Maiden won't have a July 4th Parade this year; neither will Crouse.  The Westport community will have a parade, but the other usual activities (hot dog lunch, etc.) won't be happening this year.  The parade won't include golf carts, four-wheelers, bikes, trikes or walkers--just 35 cars or trucks traveling through the community.

Cherryville has called off any and all July 4th activities.  The July 4th concert, cruise-in and fireworks in Dallas were cancelled. Gastonia will have fireworks at 9:30 PM.  There won't be any food trucks or entertainment at the Rotary Pavilion like there is most years.  Kings Mountain will have a fireworks show at 9:45 PM  that will be viewable from a wide area including most of the downtown area. They will not have live music or other activities.
