Mayor Ed Hatley called the Hometown Heroes banners "one of the best things that has happened in Lincolnton while I've been mayor."  Dale Punch initiated the project and saw it through last year.  This year, it's being handled by Nathan Eurey of the Lincolnton Recreation Dept.

The banners created last year were stored by the City and will be put on display again this year; and those who would like are invited to add more veterans to the display by once again paying for a banner.  The price is still the same ($100), but you must act quickly if you haven't already to have soemone included this year.

If you would like to honor a veteran--ancestor, family member, or friend--who served or is still serving in the military, you can purchase (they become City property) a banner again this year.

All applications, photos, and payments must be received by August 31st..

If you purchased a Hometown Hero banner last year, you do NOT need to submit an application/payment for your banner to be displayed this year.  That has already been approved by the City Council.

If you want to purchase one this year, here's how (as detailed on the City website at https://www.ci.lincolnton.nc.us/617/Hometown-Heros-Banner [Forgive the misspelling, it's posted that way, it should say 'Hometown Heroes Banners'--it's a plural, not a possessive].

Instructions:

  1. Fill out the  Hometown Hero's Banner Display Application (click here to view a fillable version of the application).
  2. Attach picture to be used on the banner - Images must be a minimum of 4" x 6" and a minimum resolution of 300 DPI - Images downloaded from Facebook and Instagram are low resolution and will be rejected due to print pixelation.
  3. Submit the banner application and image via email ([email protected]), mail (City of Lincolnton, Attn: Parks & Recreation, PO 617, Lincolnton NC 28093), or in-person at the Parks & Recreation Department office (800 Madison St, Lincolnton NC 28092) during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 9a-5p).
  4. Payment must be received in order for the application and image to be accepted! Payment may only be submitted in-person at the Parks & Recreation Department office (800 Madison St, Lincolnton NC 28092) during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 9a-5p). We are only able to accept cash or checks at this time -- credit/debit cards cannot be accepted at this time. Checks should be made payable to "City of Lincolnton". The cost per banner is $100.00.
We (the Lincoln Herald) have plans to add two veterans to the banners this year. One of those is Ed House, who served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam and has blown taps for more funerals than anyone we know.  We have talked with Ed and his family is supposed to be filling out the form and supplying a photo to Nathan; we'll then pay the $100 fee.
